Don’t let coronavirus get your favourite local businesses down – here are some easy ways you can help.

With nights out skipped for evenings in and dining out ditched for ordering in, it’s not an overstatement to say this Covid-19 sitch has shaken up the world in a few short months (which already feels like years). Local businesses are doing their best to press on during this crazy time, but if their efforts are to be successful, they’re gonna need our support.  Covid-19 hits hard, but community spirit can hit harder – here’s how you can support local by showing some love to a homegrown biz or two.

Grab a beer to save F&B

Homegrown lager brand Tiger Beer’s new initiative aims to raise $1.3 million to support our local F&B community and you can help with just a $10 donation through the website. All contributions will go to the F&B community and you’ll get a digital drink voucher for two, so that you can crack open a cold one after this is all over.

Engage a local creative

On the hunt for a photographer, illustrator, musician or other creative talents? Seeking out unique merch as a gift? Swing by the #CraftWithLove platform to hire or purchase from a local creative! This convenient platform allows you to check out their portfolios and make a purchase if there’s something you’re interested in.

Snag a tote for charity

PS.Cafe’s latest launch isn’t a new dish but tote bags for charity, which you can purchase online. At $35 each, all proceeds will go to Food from the Heart, a non-profit dedicated to alleviating hunger among low-income families and individuals. The bags are available in portrait or landscape and come in 10 colours, which are inspired by each PS.Cafe outlet. Think vibrant lime hues to represent Great World City’s key lime pie or sea blue for the East Coast Park location.

Chope a gift card

The range of local businesses affected by the loss of traffic from the Covid-19 crisis spans ice cream parlours like Creamier, bookstores like Books Actually and restaurants like Standing Sushi Bar. To give them a lil’ help, swing by the Chope and Save website to snag a gift card. This helps businesses with their cash flow, while giving you or a friend an excuse (not that you’ll need any) for a shopping spree or foodie binge once this storm blows over.

Pay a bite forward

Be an instant ray of sunshine for someone with a few mere taps on your mobile: Tiong Bahru Bakery’s Help A Neighbour initiative urges you to deliver a treat to an inconvenienced friend or neighbour. Just send the bakery’s compact Instagram story menu to the person you’re thinking of and place an order on their behalf.

Donate to fitness studios

Calling all Classpass members, send a lil’ something to the studios you love. Aside from the livestream workout classes, one of the app’s new features is the function to donate a sum (from $10 and up) to any of the workout providers on the platform.

Show some love with merch

We love the retro cinema that is The Projector so we’re gutted that we can’t visit during this time. If you’re anything like us and want to keep it alive, enter through the gift shop at the Merch-4-Money project. Go forth and donate or snag some merch like one of the handy tote bags or the 10-ticket gift pack. Alternatively, adopt a Blue Room seat and immortalise yourself or your special someone’s name, a phrase or even an inside joke on it – anything goes!

Get your WFH essentials from a local store

Need a new chair or table? Shop local! Homegrown brand Comfort Furniture is having an online sale for your work from home furniture, with 15% off the curated selection. Simply use the code ‘WORKFROMHOME15%’ at checkout.

Order up eats from the ‘hood

Going for food delivery? Support local by getting your meal from local eateries whenever possible. We’re talking neighbourhood hawkers, independent eateries and boutique cafes, who will likely need more help staying afloat compared to larger establishments.

New Ubin, a much-loved purveyor of fresh seafood dishes, has launched UbinEats to bring your favourite menu items to your doorstep. If you’re staying in the Tanjong Pagar area, be an online patron of Guoco Tower’s many food joints through the building’s dedicated Guoco Tower food delivery service. Get your favourite dishes from Ippudo, Makai Poke, Japan Rail Café, Crave and more to skip the cooking and help keep these F&B establishments afloat. Better yet, there’s free islandwide delivery for orders over $50!

Dine at local establishments

If you’re out and about (while social distancing, of course!), make an effort to patronise homegrown F&B spots. You can get digital discount coupons for your eats, too: Whiskit Bakery & Cafe is offering 20% off all food items, Bread & Butterfly has a one-for-one ice cream deal and Ocean Seafood’s Noodle Story is serving its signature minced pork noodles (bak chor mee) at just $4. More deals over at iSave.sg.

Buy a drink from your fave bar

… and have it delivered to you on the same day. What, did you think we’d suggest dropping by physically? Of course not! Luckily, Project Wheels On The Bars is on the move to save your favourite watering holes. Swing by the website to order a tipple from the likes of Employees Only, Jigger & Pony, Moonstone Bar, The Old Man and more. They deliver islandwide and all proceeds go directly to the bars.

Share this list with your friends to help these local businesses!
